Sasaran was a disappearing fishing village in the year 2009 with the decrease of fishing activities , which few artist from the communities has started organising art festival in resurfacing their village and reputation. In the year 2012, while the communities has geared up for their second art festival comprising 60 participate artist, a disastrous fire happened and completely destruct a row of wooden houses to remnant of debris.

We join in as a part of disaster recovery while reactivating the burnt site to be able to use as an outdoor display of artist work. With a limited fund and resources, our design workshop with collaboration of academic [UCSI School of Architecture and Build Environment] and industry [Architron Design Consultant] started to work with a local concrete block factory.

Upon circulation and journey planning, each student were to adopt one wall, design each with a function with the module of 3 sizes of blocks.

 

However , the main challenge of this site would be the vastness and the entire ground covered with debris from the fire destruction. Hence, major parts of the works has been reorganising debris to an order where artist and visitor could utilize, and to reveal the life of occupant and the soul of the house prior the fire.

This site has been successfully reclaimed by the community, and has been latter develop into Sasaran Art Park Kuala Selangor.

Destruction of 9 wooden houses which result in a landscape of debris. Organise, collect and collate remant of debris.

The meeting with the community key member to allocate their idea of playscape and dicuss on further thing.

Instead of fully removing all debris, they’re organise to an order and crafted to potential spaces which remain as part of existing context which reminisced the past living and the recent incident.

Artists’ work , while some further explored with the remnant of debris into making new art.

Each team of students adopted one wall, with understanding their context design and lay with a function. Infusing new programme to celebrate the people ownership of public place
