Bamboo architecture offers some answers to the 21st century challenge that lies in realms of ecology and the social. In introducing bamboo architecture to communities, attention shall be given towards a more holistic way in capitalizing local resources; that is including materials, technologies, required knowledge and skill-sets, and the social capital. Therefore in recent times, more and more studies on bamboo projects were made to seek a better solution for our living.
Students are introduced to bamboo starting with learning the joinery of bamboo. Different from others, bamboo joints are actually complex and interesting to explore. Limited to its cylinder shape and solid surface, people developed amazing joining methods to make bamboo happen in different scenario.

"Bamboo Modular System Design"
With the understanding of joineries limitation & potential, student to start their own research and ideate for a bamboo modular system , which on its own singular unit function as and architectural exhibition stand, and could multiply into complex unit [multiplication of its function and scale]. The diversity of bamboo leads students to explore various potentials for constructing modular system using bamboo.
Students have shown their creativity in transforming single bamboo into multi-functional items that suit our living environment. More and more, students are excited to explore bamboo by developing bamboo joinery and changing form with minor adjustments. Each group to define the function of the exhibition stand, however each of its singular unit is essential to be able to be flatpack-able, and be freeto assemble and dissemble, before & after use. Each student to fabricate ONE 1:20 scaled prototype of bamboo module unit, with A3 process to document their research, thinking [sketches] and trial process [mock-up] with bamboo sticks.

Stage 5_
Model
Student draft the idea with the basic knowledge of bamboo and modular system. From this stage, student idea started to form.
Student are encourage to proceed their design with prototyping their work. From here they can test up the joinary method and other issue.

From here student have located their design direction and further exploring their modular idea from testing up multiple modular component.
Once the modular system have comfirm, student proceed on defining function and ability for different modular type base on their deisgn.

The final step is to modeling the design and show its functionity in real life.

The study of bamboo and its joinery method finally led to a live build project. The bamboo dog shelter is initiative to improve the environment and welfare of the dogs at C.A.S.H animal shelter is a commendable effort. Conducting a needs assessment is a crucial first step to identifying the specific requirements of the dogs and the shelter, such as improving the playground's surface, adding more exercise equipment, and creating a shaded area.
Involving the shelter's staff, volunteers, and undergraduate students with architectural knowledge and practical expertise can ensure a collaborative effort to address the identified issues. By raising awareness of the challenges that animal shelters face and seeking help from volunteers and donors, the initiative can contribute to the sustainability of C.A.S.H and benefit the dogs' physical and mental health.
